The THAT 1570/5171 is a 2-chip microphone preamp which elegantly solves the problems of previous digitally-controlled analogue front-ends. By separating the low-noise, high-gain analogue preamp from the digital functions and switched resistor ladder, the 1570/5171 provides the versatility of digital control while delivering stellar sonic performance for the most demanding pro and MI audio applications.
The analogue THAT1570 is fabricated using THAT's complementary dielectric isolation (DI) process and precision laser-trimmed Si-Chrome thin film resistors. DI technology separates each transistor in its own insulating tub, avoiding the inevitable crosstalk of conventional reverse-biased junction isolating techniques but retaining the transistor matching and temperature tracking inherent in integrated circuits. The result is a preamp with the sound of a discrete and the performance and stability of an IC.
The complementary THAT5171 is fabricated in a high-voltage CMOS process, with proprietary techniques for reducing FET switching glitches. Packaged in 4x4mm QFN16 (THAT1570) and 7x7mm QFN32 (THAT5171) outlines, the combination takes up very little real estate.
There has never been a satisfactory integrated mic pre with digital control…until now. With the THAT 1570/5171, designers can now incorporate a preamp with high sonic performance and digital controllability into a wider range of products than ever before.
